“A CV shows where someone has been. But never who they really are.”

I’ve been saying this for years.
A CV tells you a lot about a person’s professional journey, but never the whole story.
I had the opportunity to talk about exactly that with Birgit Eller Krumm on her KAP podcast. We spoke about understanding people, finding the perfect match between individuals and companies, and everything that lies between the lines.

What I didn’t expect was just how personal the conversation would become.

We started by talking about hearts and brains, my agency and our vision. Then, before I knew it, we were talking about my own journey. About the former GDR, being denied the opportunity to study, the fall of the Berlin Wall and starting over, which was far from the only new beginning in my life. About decisions I made long before I knew where they would lead me.
At the end, Birgit asked me what I would take away from our conversation.
My answer came completely spontaneously:

“WOW.

I’ve already experienced all of that.

I’ve achieved and built so much.”

Sometimes it takes exactly these kinds of conversations to realise just how far you’ve come. Moments like these are rare. But they matter. And they are incredibly valuable.

Thank you, Birgit.

For your openness.
For your curiosity.
And for encouraging people to reflect.
On all kinds of different topics.
On others.
And on themselves.
